Church Pew Specifications

Church Pews Sales and InstallationAll pews and pew components will be manufactured using first quality solid wood of the selected wood specie, Red Oak or Sycamore, FAS grade, selected for color and texture. Exposed wood to be free of large knots and blemishes with only pin knots and character forming marks allowed. No particleboard, plywood or veneers of any type to be used in any pew or pew component. All lumber shall be stacked dry to a maximum of 20% moisture content and kiln dried and stress relieved to a moisture content of 5%—8%, The colonial pew end (white finished end) is the only pew end made of medium density fiberboard to maintain high quality paint finish with no grain exposure.

CHURCH PEW END SPECIFICATIONS

STAIN FINISHED ENDS (Two options)

1. FACE GRAIN EXPOSED— fabricated of two 1” plys of solid kiln dried wood exposing the face grain to view. Total thickness of end is 2”. No stained end to contain any particleboard, plywood or veneers.

2. EDGE GRAIN EXPOSED-. (CUSTOM OPTION) (butcher block) fabricated of 2” strips of solid kiln dried wood exposing the edge grain to view. Total thickness of end is 2’. No stained end to contain any particleboard plywood or veneers,

COLONIAL FINISHED ENDS

COLONIAL
— (white finished) fabricated of one solid 2’ in thickness section of medium density fiberboard. No Colonial end to contain any particleboard plywood or veneers.

END CAPS
Where applicable, (specific end models feature a trim piece as a cap on the top section and or the arm rest). End caps shall be fabricated of multi-ply of solid kiln dried wood of selected wood specie.

END BASE
All non cantilevered pew ends are placed on a base which is anchored to the floor. All pew bases are fabricated of 3—4 plys of solid kiln dried wood. Dimensions are 2 1/2” in height, 2 ¼” width and 20 ½” and in length. End model number S/C—WF602 shall be 2 ½” in height 3” in width and 22” in length. For concealed anchors on a concrete floor the end base will be anchored with a ¼” x 3 ¼” Hilti carbon steel wedge anchor,

MID SUPPORTS
Mid supports shall be fabricated of 1 3/1 6” thick x 1 ½” wide, strips of solid wood exposing the edge grain to view. Mid support shall be 1 ½” in thickness. No mid support to contain any particleboard, plywood or veneers. Each mid support to be placed no more then 6’ centers and screwed to the back of pew by counter sinking (2) 1 ½”, #9, case hardened, square drive, deep thread, self tapping pan/washer head screws only, Counter sink holes shall receiye ½” hardwood tapered plug.
The bottom of the mid support shall be fastened through pocket holes to the bottom of the seat with (2) 1 ½” #9 case hardened, square drive, deep thread, self tapping pan/washer head screws only. The mid supports shall be factory cut to be 1 ½” long so they can be custom scribed to the floor at installation to compensate to variations in the floor

An additional wood SUpport 7/8” in thickness, 3 ½” in width and 11” in length shall be placed under the seat, cross grain to the seat at each end and at not less then 6 centers of the pew body, Pew body shall not contain any particleboard, plywood or veneers.

An additional wood support 7/8” in thickness, 3 ½ in width and 11” in length shall be placed under the seat, cross grain to the seat at each end and at not less then 6’ centers of the pew body. Pew body shall not contain any particle board. plywood or veneers.

Lumbar back. (Model C) (Upholstered rear of back)
Seat- Solid multi—widths finger joined yellow pine 7/8” in thickness covered with foam and upholstery.
Back— Solid multi—widths finger joined yellow pine 7/8” in thickness covered with lumbar foam and upholstery. Rear of back- Sorid multi—widths finger joined yellow pine 7/8” in thickness covered with upholstery. An additional wood support 7/8” in thickness, 3 ½” in width and 11” in length shall be placed under the seat, cross grain to the seat at each end and at not less then 6’ centers of the pew body. Pew body shall not contain any particle board, plywood or veneers.

Lumbar back. (Model D) (Solid wood rear of back)
Seat— Solid multi—widths finger joined yellow pine 7/8” in thickness covered with foam and upholstery.
Back— Solid kiln dried wood 13/16” in thickness covered with lumbar foam and upholstery.
Rear of back— Solid kiln dried wood in 13/16” thickness.
An additional wood support 7/8” in thickness, 3 ½” in width and 11” in length shall be placed under the seat, cross grain to the seat at each end and at not less then 6’ centers of the pew body. Pew body shall not contain any particleboard, plywood or veneers.

HIGH-BACK PEWS
Suburban Church Supply recommends high back pews in areas where pews are installed in a stadium fashion, ie; the pews will be anchored to risers as in a balcony. Our standard high—back height results in the back extending an additional 6” and total pew height of 41 ½’ from the floor. It is the customer’s responsibility to specify any additional height required for safety measures. We recommend the customer consult with the architect and or local building inspector for guidelines.

TOP RAIL
Pew body models C and D, the top rail shall be fabricated of solid kiln dried wood 2 3/4”in thickness and 1 5/8” in width. It shall be spline fastened to the top of the pew body back. top rail will be factory finger joined on rails 16’ and longer. On pew bodies A and B the top rail is integrated to the back as to form one solid component of the pew back and top rail.

FOAM
Seat foam shall be a thickness of 3 1/2”. Density of foam shall be 1 .8 lbs. per cubic ft., and an ILD rating of 5O.
Back foam shall be a thickness of 1”. Density of foam shall be 1 .8 lbs. per cubic ft. and an ILD rating of 50.
Lumbar on models E and F contain an additional 1 1/2”x 4 ½” section of lumbar foam. Density of foam shall be 1 .8 lbs. per cubic ft. and an ILD rating of 5O.

PEW ASSEMBLY

PEW BODY ASSEMBLY
The pew body, (seat and back) is fastened together with 2”, #9 case hardened, square drive, deep thread, self tapping pan/washer head screws only on] 8” centers.

ASSEMBLY OF PEW BODY TO END
Pew body assembly to pew end shall be of mortise and tenon joinery. The ends are routed (mortised), to a depth of ½” to receive the pew body (tenon). The under seat of the pew body shall be screwed to the end with 2”, #9 case hardened, square drive, deep thread, self tapping pan/washer head screws only. The rear of back of the pew body shall be screwed to the end with 1 1/2”, #9 case hardened, square drive, deep thread, self tapping pan/washer head screws only.

STAIN
CC—F40 Sher—Wood Universal Dye Concentrate by Sherwin Williams Chemical Coatings— Ultra high strength monochromatic dye solution. Ten times stronger than Conventional dye stains. Meets Federal HAPS speciflcatjons as a package. Additional specifications available upon request.

SEALER
CC—F53 Sher—Wood fast dry vinyl sealer by Sherwin Williams Chemical Coatings-  A vinyl modified moisture resistant nitrocellulose sanding sealer. Meets Federal HAPS specifications as a package and VOC compliant. 19% solids content Additional specifications available upon request.

LACQUER
CC-F43 Sher—wood pre—catalyzed lacquer by Shenvin Williams Chemical Coatings- A fast dry high performance, conversion lacquer. Meets KCMA specifications as a self sealer and or Over Sher—Wood vinyl sealer as a system, Gloss 80+ units, BRE 55-59 units, MRE 30-34 units DRE 17 21 units. Weight Solids 28.6 +/— 2%, volume solids 20.5 +/- 2%. Additional specifications available upon request.
